Country sounds set in downtown Kent

Pull out all the stops with a weekend full of free festivities and music in downtown Kent. Here's what this weekend has in store:

Country night at Bar 145

Kent's new gastropub, Bar 145 will host its first Country Night on Friday.

Cover band Hillbilly Deluxe, a group of talented, young musicians who put on a high-energy, rockin' party country show, will perform.

Don't be shy. Put on your best cowboy boots and hat and come on down to Bar 145. You'll be line dancing and singing along to all your favorite country songs all night.

Music will start at 10 p.m. Bar 145 is located at 100 East Erie Street.

Halim El-Dabh's 4,092nd Birthday

Standing Rock Cultural Arts is honored to present the celebration of Halim El-Dabh's 4,092nd Birthday on Monday.

Halim is a professor emeritus at Kent State University and is one of the premier classical music composers living in the world today.

All are welcome to bring instruments, beverages and good vibrations to help celebrate the achievements of this incredibly creative spirit in our community. Also, feel free to bring a covered dish.

The celebration will take place at 7 p.m. Monday at North Water Street Gallery, 257 North Water Street. The Kent African Drum Community will perform at 8 p.m. Admission is free.

Don't forget your drums and dancing shoes.
