Four champions in the Portage Trail Conference will be crowned today at Bill White's Akron Lanes -- two boys teams and two girls teams.
Both the Metro and County Divisions will open league tournament action today at 1 p.m.
The final results in the tournament are paired with the final regular-season standings -- each carrying the same weight -- to determine the overall division champions.
Looking to defend their crowns are the Garfield boys and girls, along with the Crestwood boys and Springfield girls.
While the programs of the G-Men and Spartans are in position to repeat their titles, the Red Devils find a much stiffer road after placing fifth during the regular season. The Springfield and Garfield girls' programs both closed the regular seasons unbeaten.
The Kent Roosevelt boys stand atop the Metro Division boys standings with an 8-2 record.
Today's pre-tournament activities begin at 12:45 p.m. with the announcement of teams.
Admission for spectators is $6 for adults and $4 for students and seniors citizens 65 and older.
Trophies, individual medals and champions will be crowned immediately following the conclusion of the tournament.
See Sunday's edition of the Record-Courier for complete coverage of the tournament.
