OPERS retirees, beware, please, of getting involved with Area Agency on Agency, J&FS and Passport services. Be sure Ohio Public Employees Retirement System is informed of any involvement in the Medicaid system that the above agencies promote.
Being in poorer health at the time, I contacted Area Agency on Aging about transportation services for the elderly. I was given the information and also received information about many other services I never knew of.
According to my income, they convinced me that I was living below the poverty level. I disagreed, but they were quite convincing, so as an ailing, elderly senior I signed up for Medicaid and passed the financial criteria.
After five years of receiving marvelous services, I've found out that OPERS should have been notified of my Medicaid services, but was not. Now they know and immediately have lessened my income $96.40 per month to pay back $5,109.20 overpayment for the last five years. (Some kind of money flow changes when OPERS retirees go on Medicaid.) This old gal is really stresssed out.
So, at 83, I now know what below poverty level living is like, but I should be paid up by 2017.
I just want fellow OPERS retirees to be informed and aware of flaws in the system.
