Lucille M. Blackman

Lucille M. Blackman (Laughlin), 90, of Edinburg, Ohio, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at University Hospital in Ravenna.

Lucille (Lucy) was born in Edinburg the daughter of Leslie & Lena Laughlin. She graduated from the former Edinburg High School circa 1943 then worked as a waitress at the former Vale Edge Restaurant in Ravenna. She married William E. Blackman Sr. in 1951 and together they raised a family of five children on farms in Charlestown then Edinburg. Lucille was a wonderful mother, homemaker, cook, gardener and farmer. She loved to read and could play the organ and sing. Until her health declined, she was active in church, a neighborhood bible study group, Junior Tuesday, Garden Club and enjoyed updates on activities of the 10th Cavalry 4H club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband who passed away in 2005, her son James K. Blackman who passed away in 1992 and her half-brother Theodore E. Metcalf of Inverness, Fla. and formerly Mills River, NC who passed away in 2007.

She is survived by sons William E. Blackman Jr. of Edinburg, John T. Blackman and his wife Anne of Kent, and daughters Christine L. Thornberry and her husband Doug of Alliance, Susan R. Thomas and her husband Tom and grandson Zachary of Atwater and by several nieces and nephews.

Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, Ravenna, is assisting the family with arrangements. A private service and burial at Edinburg cemetery is planned. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.wood-kortright-borkoski.com.
