On March 23, 2013, Dean Brunson Hunt passed away in Shelby, North Carolina. He was 91. Born on May 1, 1921 in Dennison, Ohio to Ruth and Glenn Hunt, in 1941 Dean married Betty Jean Arthurs (deceased 1979).
During WWII Dean joined the Navy Seabees and served six months in Guadalcanal, a year in New Caledonia and a year in Guam. After the war he took advantage of the GI Bill and graduated from Kent State University.
Dean had a successful career. After college he worked as an accountant for Evenflo in Ravenna, Ohio. He then moved to Oil City, Pennsylvania where he became President of Oil City Glass Company. In 1969 he returned to head Evenflo in Ravenna, Ohio. In 1980, Dean married Edith Mae Miller, retired and moved to Shelby, North Carolina, where he resided until his death.
An avid golfer, Dean played golf seven days a week when he first retired. Although he tapered off over time, he continued to play well into his 80s. He shot his age at 70 and many times after that.
Dean is survived by his wife, Edie Hunt, his four children - Linda Campbell and her husband, Ron; Susan Hunt; Jeff Hunt and his wife, Cheryl; and Bill Hunt ; three step children Diane Miller, Terry Miller and Dan Miller; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
On this 90th birthday Dean was asked what his legacy would be to his children. He said it was "a strong work ethic, drive, ambition, competitive nature, love of family and dry sense of humor".
A Celebration of Life will be held in Ravenna, Ohio in late May.
