Donald Lee Summers, 70 passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his home. He was born June 16, 1942, in Ravenna to Vera King Summers and Carl R Summers.
Don attended Ravenna Township High School class of 1960 and was employed by Montigney Hardware before enlisting in the United States Army serving his country 4 years. Don retired from General Motors in 2000. After retirement he moved to his farm in West Union, WV. There he lived and was a Gentleman Farmer caring for rescue horses.
Don was a member of Indian Creek Southern Baptist Church and was very active in various service ministries. He was involved in local Prison Ministries, Nursing Home and a Construction Ministries. He was a full time Royal Ambassador Leader - mentoring boys and young men for some 5 yrs - sponsoring camping trips, fishing derbies, and the like. He was involved in "Better Way Ministries", a street ministry and "Send the Promise", a drama ministry both in Columbus, OH. He went on several domestic mission trips to MD, KY, WV and OH.
Don passed into eternity on January 29, 2013 and leaves behind his loving wife, Lisa Morris Summers of Springfield and Hilliard, OH. He is survived by his son Shawn and daughter Danielle, both of Columbus, stepchildren: John (Rachael) Shirk of Clayton, NC; Jeff (Stephanie) Shirk and Jessica (Dorian) Shirk Raimey, of Columbus. He leaves two brothers: Bob (Linda) of West Union, WV and Mark (Amy) of Republic, MO; Eight sisters: Wanda Reed, Venice, FL; Barb (Walt) Miazga, Leo, IN; Pat (Leonard) Retherford, Ravenna; Ida Summers, Huntertown, IN; Nelva (Mike) White, Wichita Falls, TX; Pam (Steve) Lee, Indianapolis, IN, Cheryl (Rich) Creech, Springfield, OH; and Debbie (Jim) Maddern of Colorado Springs, CO. Don also leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Christian, Dylan, Corey, Alexis, Micah, Autumn, Joshua, Olivia, Madison, and Ben.
He is preceded in death by an infant son: Timothy; his parents; brother: Carl (Sonny); brother-in-law: Denny Reed; niece: Cindy Miazga Craft; and nephew: Kelly Vanatta.
