Gayle Philpot, age 78 of Ravenna, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at Maple Wood Care Centre. She was born May 21, 1934, in Unaka, North Carolina, a daughter of the late John and Ruby (Crowe) Jones.
Gayle graduated from Akron South High School as well as Howard Nichol School of Nursing and Stark State College. She had worked as a private duty nurse for the majority of her career, primarily with pediatric ventilators. On August 1, 1952, she married Alvin Philpot in Covington, Kentucky. Gayle volunteered as a 4-H advisor and served as the president of the Saddle Horse Association for several years.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin H. Philpot and their children: Robert (Rebecca) Philpot of Garrettsville, Rebecca Philpot of Rootstown, John Philpot of Ravenna, and Aimee (Dave) Conroy of Rootstown; along with her grandchildren: Marlena Philpot and Owen and Ethan Conroy.
Gayle was preceded in death by her daughter, Alisa Osdyke and her brother, Guy Jones.
Friends will be received Thursday, November 29, 2012, from 11:00 AM until the 12:00 PM funeral service officiated by Reverend Wayne Enders at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Afterwards, there will be a time for family and friends to gather back at Gayle's farm.
