Born Sept. 27, 1937 in Painesville, he was the son of William G. and Martha (Ely) Markle Johnson. A former Chardon resident, he had lived in Portage County for the past 17 years.
Mr. Johnson was a machinist at Addressograph-Multigraph in Cleveland, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Troy Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army in Japan and the Panama Canal between 1954 and 1959. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Fay (Christine), whom he married Jan. 26, 1980; sons, William Johnson of East Claridon, Ohio, Robert Christine of Tyrone, Pa., Alan Christine of Rock Creek, Ohio and Matthew of Nelson; daughters, Kelly Kutz and Meredith Kish, both of Thompson, Ruth McGowan of Huntsburg, and Amy Christine of Tyrone; 25 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Marcella Acker of Madison, Jean Marie Curry of Fairport Harbor, Agnes Loar of New Lyme and Betty Raymond of Florida. His father died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Russell Golden Rule Funeral Home in Middlefield where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Wayne Saunders officiating. Burial will be in Huntsburg Cemetery.
