WINDHAM - The Streetsboro Rockets appeared to have some anger pent up after losing as time expired to Garfield last week.
They let it out on Windham Friday night, scoring 10 touchdowns en route to a 70-8 win.
"We wanted to come out and play like we should play," said Streetsboro head coach John Arlesic. "When we execute, we can be scary like that."
The Bombers (1-7, 1-5 Portage Trail Conference County Division) didn't look scared, but they weren't able to contain the speedy Rockets (6-3, 4-2). Streetsboro gained 338 yards on the ground, with no single player finishing with more than 75 yards.
The Rockets started scoring early. Less than two minutes into the game, the Rockets recovered a Windham fumble and quarterback Carrington Hanna threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Cory Lanterman on the next play.
Senior Josh Brenner kicked the first of 10 straight extra-points for a 7-0 Streetsboro lead.
Lanterman later scored the second of his four TDs - all in the first half - on an 18-yard run, putting the Rockets up 14-0 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, Hanna scored on a 1-yard run and Lanterman added a 7-yard sprint to put Streetsboro up 28-0. Then senior strong safety and wide receiver Robert Wilson intercepted a Windham pass at the Rockets' 45 and flipped the ball back as he was being drug down to Lanterman, who carried it 55 yards for the score and a 35-0 lead.
"They've been playing together since the fourth grade, and they're best friends," Arlesic said of Wilson and Lanterman. "You don't coach that. They're two guys that know each other and understand the game of football, and they're making something happen."
Dan Spindler added an 8-yard run to cap a 28-point second quarter that gave Streetsboro a 42-0 halftime lead.
"We thought we'd have some opportunities to get some early successes," said Windham head coach Jerry Kiser. "But we had some turnovers (7) and dug some big holes that we couldn't get out of."
Kiser acknowledged a few successes, though.
Among them was their touchdown - an uncontested 1-yard run by Dave VanSteenberg in the third quarter. The Bombers got to the 1-yard line via a 75-yard run by VanSteenberg the play before.
Tailback Alan Blake added to the total with a run up the middle for the 2-point conversion, but those were all of the points Windham would produce.
"We knew (Streetsboro) had a bunch of speed, and we knew they were a bunch of athletes," Kiser said. "But I'm very disappointed because we're not that bad."
Hanna completed 11-of-17 passes for 184 yards and ran for a pair of touchdowns for the Rockets, who did not throw a single pass in the second half.
Streetsboro will finish its 2008 regular season next Friday with a game against Rootstown, who was defeated by Garfield 24-0 on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Bombers still have two games left on their schedule: Next Friday at Garfield and a rescheduled matchup with Newton Falls on Oct. 31.

	Streetsboro put in their JV with 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and left them in. What did you expect them to do - take a knee for each play? We ran the ball, didn't throw long bomb passes, it was just a matter of Windham not being able to defend. Streetsboro has always shown class, good sportsmanship and good attitudes. There have been several games this year where the coach had the team take a knee when we could have scored, like at Woodridge in the 4th quarter at the 3 yard line with 20 seconds left. Windham has lost seniors and now is in the rebuilding process-it happens to a lot of teams, especially if you do not have a strong youth program, but don't fault Streetsbor for playing the game.
