I just want everyone to know that the high and mighty in Garrettsville showed their true colors last night at the Windham/Garrettsville football game. After beating the Bombers, the G-ville student section proceeded to plant their flag in the middle of the Bombers field and tried to start a brawl, which was broken up. I would suggest that the administration, coaches, parents and community as a whole should examine the values, morals and ethics they are teaching their children! There is also a rumor that on Friday Garrettsville HS held a "Windham Day" where the students dressed in garbage bags and glued trash all over them. If this is indeed true, then I think the administration should be held responsible and have to make an apology to the citizens of Windham. People in Garrrettsville are NO BETTER than the people in Windham.....as a matter of fact, their athletic director and principal are former Bombers...you're welcome Garrettsville! I've always been proud to be a Bomber, but never more so than today! Our boys conducted themselves with dignity and class and for that, I think they were the winners last night! Love you Bombers!

Boy, what vitriol there is between these two communities. The rivalry between Garfield and Windham is a long one and it is understandable. Much like the rivalry between the Browns and Steelers, Windham and Garrettsville are two communities very similar in economics and composition; they vie with each other to see which is best.
Both teams colors are black and gold, both are rural communities with mostly an agrarian economies, though that too is changing. Little development has visited either community. The one big difference is the huge bite taken out of Windham by the Federal Government (which by the way has quit paying the school system for the acreage that it would be collecting taxes on if the Arsenal did not exist) making Windham the smaller community.
It is sad to realize that the Windham people see themselves as victims instead of active participants in this rivalry. I cannot believe that Chuck Klamer, the Garfield Schools Superintendent (not principal) would ever condone something like "Windham Trash Day". I know Chuck and he is an honorable man.
The rivalry though is just what it is. A rivalry and it will endure right up until the State steps in and closes the Windham School District and forces it to merge with.... Garfield. What an interesting day that will be. The two sworn enemies becoming one. The realization that they are no different; that in hating the other, they are actually hating themselves.
The truth is Windham, we in the Garfield School District actually love you. Without you we would not have a rival and I personally look forward to the time when you, our neighbor, our friend... our estranged family, come into the fold and become one with us.

Okay I guess I have to spell it out for you sunshine.... The G-Men students have for a couple years chanted Trash Town/ Garbage Pit/ Landfill, One student even made a sign that had the infamous saying on it and paraded it around our Gym at a game.... So if you think a couple parents getting on this post saying "I swear it wasn't about Windham" That I would automatically believe them well your mistaken , what's done is done and I'm not going to comment on this post anymore its like spitting into the Wind.... And the answer to your second question (although I don't know what you mean) every town has trash in it I'm just sick of people thinking that they are better than us ...... And being allowed to act ignorant and get away with it, Never one time did I say Garrettsville can't have any trash in it.... I said we may have a little trash, But at least we have class.... Class and trash are two different things in my book.... Hope that clears things up for you...

To all the Windham people, People can only tell you so many times it was NOT "Windham Trash Day" & you insist it was. So answer me this. Do you believe Windham is trash and that's why you insist to believe that's what it ment even after they say it's not true or are you truly trash? I mean, when people are telling you that you are not trash and you insist that you are, what are the people that are not from Windham or Garrettsville suppose to think.
And to strwberry67, do your comments mean that it's ok for Windham to have some trash in there town but Garrettsville can't?

The remarks made by thinblueline are typical of the attitude that is promoted by Garfield's school administration. I have been to numerous athletic events between the two schools and have witnessed first hand the sad behavior which is tolerated by, not only school officals but the community members by virtue of not addressing these incidents and insist this behavior not be tolerated by our students. We have repeatedly heard the chants of "white trash", "local landfill","get a job" and other personal insults directed at the team members and cheerleaders of Windham accompanied by loud claps for prolonged periods of time while the Supt., Athletic Director and other school officals stand by and pretend not to hear. These are the same people, in charge of the students, who are trying to sweep the spiked pucnh under the rug. I am ashamed of not speaking to them directly about this unacceptable conduct but I do not want my children targeted...and believe me this happens. The flag incident could have easily been prevented since it happens every time we go to windham. Our AD and Supt. knew it would happen just like they knew about the "garbage day" There is a doublestandard at Garfield and I wish our school leaders would look in the mirror and realize it is past time to take action.

Why don't you all go get a job and stop your ********. You have way too much time on your hands and there are allot more important things going on in this world than to worry about your hurt feelings. Besides, nobody cares!

For the G-ville parents who are denying this occurred-If "Windham Trash" day did not occur why are G-ville students AND parents confirming that it did take place? Are they lying? I, too, find it hard to believe that the "trash day" just happened to coincide with the Windham/G-ville football game and that it had nothing to do with Windham. I find it even harder to believe that students & parents who reside in the G-ville community would lie & say this transpired if it didn't.

I will agree with you on the fact that Windham and Garfield have been at each others throat for years and it was all in fun, I have no problem with that, But I will not believe that the "Garbage Day" was not aimed at Windham everyone knows that Garfield students have chanted the Windham trash town/ Projects ect ect, I can not believe that it's just a coincidence that Garfield had a "Garbage Day." I know you people say it has nothing to do with Windham, But I'm sorry it did and I hold the Administration responsible for allowing it to happen,Even if you believe it was done with out malice think about it, if the shoes was on the other foot would you not think it was directed at your town? It's over now and can't be undone but I have lost a lot of respect for the Garfield Administration. And I will continue to defend my town and school, And as for the Bomber that was involved with the flag planting he is not a true Bomber or that wouldn't have happened so let him move to Garrettsville.

Windham and Garfield have been at each others throats for years. Its always been in fun, burn a G on their field, you come over and burn a W on the front yard. This has all been in fun! This year the boys may of gotten a little out of hand with the flag planting. Do you also know that one of the boys that planted the flag is a Windham resident? Yes, Windham one of your own was in on this!
As for garbage day, did anyone see pictures of those dressed up, they used bubble wrap, potato chip bags, duct tape and other items to make clothes. Nothing out of taste or referring to WINDHAM.
So Windham and Garfield...lets keep our heads next year and enjoy the game and fun.
