On Thursday, June 25, 2009, Thompson's Academy of Martial Arts in Streetsboro tested four of its students, Lindsey Stone, Darian Milliken, Adam Chaney, and Riley Meyer, for their Shodan (Black Belt) rank. The school cancelled regular classes for the evening and opened the doors to all family, friends, and students who wanted to cheer them on.

A long list of requirements were expected of those testing. Besides having to both physically and technically execute superior knowledge of all techniques, they were given several tests of endurance and skill. Each student had to create their own kata (choreographed patterns of movements), and they were also required to choose an "uke" (partner "receiving the technique") and put together a self-defense routine showing their skills in possible real-life situations. A very special Thank You goes out to Gary and Angela for being great ukes.

Thompson's is located next door to the Streetsboro Post Office in the Streetsboro Plaza on S.R. 303. They have classes available in Kempo Karate, MMA, along with Tai Chi. Call 330-626-2004 for more information.
