Lead Safe Training Class Available in JulyJuly 1, 2009
In a further effort to reduce child lead base paint poisoning, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued new work practice standards for remodelers of homes built prior to 1978. Under the new rule, beginning in April 2010, contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in residential homes, child care facilities, and schools are "required to be certified and follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. The rule will affect paid renovators (i.e. renovation contractors, maintenance workers in multi-family housing, painters, electricians, plumbers, and other specialty trades) who work in pre-1978 housing and child " occupied facilities. The new EPA rule will require supervisors to complete a one day training class, plus a 4 hour EPA refresher course. The Ohio Department of Development will be sponsoring the training provided by C.O.A.D. The 8 hour Lead Safe training classes will be held at the NDS office located at 120 E. Main St. Ravenna, Ohio 44266, on July 15, 2009 from 8:30 am-4:30pm. The 4 hour EPA refresher classes will be held at the NDS office on November 3, 2009. To schedule as class appointment, Contractors/remodelers may call 330-297-6400 Ext. 250 to request an application form or stop at the NDS office. The fee for each class will be $10. Comments
