Randolph Township Fiscal Officer
Term of the seat: Four years
Salary: About $19,000 per year

Name: Mary A. Rodenbucher
Occupation: Randolph Township Administrator
Previous elected office: None
Question: How are the duties of the fiscal officer changing, and how would you prepare yourself to face these changes?
Answer: The duties of the fiscal officer are in constant change with tax updates and new mandates. Training is offered for the many areas that the fiscal officer is responsible for such as budgeting, investments, and new legislation affecting the township and its records. Fiscal officers need to be informed and to promptly implement the required changes. The changes can be overwhelming and time consuming, but with training and requests for clarification the changes are manageable. The key to success is to consistently gather information and continually work toward implementing the required changes. This may require that these items continually be brought up at meetings until it is completed. I strongly believe that asking questions until it is understood is critical to passing on information to the trustees and in making informed decisions. I will attend any training that is offered and seek support as needed to be informed. I will also devote whatever time is necessary to prepare and fulfill the duties of this position. I look forward to serving the residents of Randolph Township.

Question: How are the duties of the fiscal officer changing, and how would you prepare yourself to face these changes?
Answer: Township government is in a constant state of change; thus, the fiscal officer duties change " more detailed reporting is mandated, more entities are added to which you must report, more services required. I always have taken any continuing education to help me understand the legislative changes applying to township government in order to conform to the needs of Randolph Township. As vice president of the Ohio Township Association (elected by my peers of over 5,000 members, 1,308 townships in Ohio of four elected officials each) I travel the state of Ohio participating in seminars both as a presenter and as a listener. I also give one-on-one training where needed to other trustees and fiscal officers. I feel this sharing of knowledge gives me the information to perform better at home plus the networking and sharing of ideas is always a good way of problem solving.
