Costly 'fantasy'

I would like to comment on the Streetsboro school officials checking out what some of the options might be if they decide to ask the community to approve a new high school (Record-Courier, May 7). Even if there are no plans to place a bond issue on the ballot this calendar year, in my opinion it's still too soon after the last levy in November 2007.

A question to the school board: If you can convince the community to approve a new high school, why are you spending tax dollars on improvements to the existing high school? What will you do with that school if your long-term plan of constructing a new high school comes to fruition?

The district would pay 65 percent and the state 35 percent of the construction cost. Doesn't sound like a fair deal to me.

Have you no empathy for seniors who are struggling in this economy? My mother's property taxes have gone up over $50 for the tax year. In my opinion, this fantasy needs to be bankrolled by a rich benefactor as I, for one, will vote "No."

This issue will not go away. Our property taxes will increase because the school board cannot take "No" for an answer.
