By Holly Schoenstein Gateway News STREETSBORO — Acting Mayor Art Scott will continue occupying the city’s top office, after narrowly defeating Twinsburg Fire Capt. Glenn Broska in a nine-way mayoral race Tuesday. Scott received 1,068 votes while Broska earned 1,040 votes, according to complete but unofficial results from the Portage County Board of Elections. Challenger Robert Carothers placed third with 661 votes, followed by Tinkers Green Drive resident John Ruediger, 436; Ruby Lane resident Raul Leoni, 417; Councilman Pete Buczkowski, 313; former Councilwoman Jana Dengg, 337; Councilman Regis Faivre, 118; and former Councilman Leon Jankowski, 88. “It was a tough race. We had some good competition there, and I prevailed,” said Scott, a former Streetsboro councilman. He said there will be no changes to the city’s administration in the foreseeable future. “It’s been a tough time for everybody in the city. Now that we’ve gotten the uncertainties settled, it’s time for us to move forward,” he said. Scott will finish the remainder of the four-year term that former Mayor Tom Wagner vacated when he resigned in May amid allegations of misconduct in office. City council withdrew the allegations when Wagner resigned. Scott’s term ends in November 2011. Broska attributed his defeat to the number of candidates that were vying for one office. “The time for campaigning is over. It’s time now for the mayor and city council to live up to their responsibilities to meet the challenges facing Streetsboro,” Broska said. “How well we step up to that task will determine whether Streetsboro gains control of its own destiny or continues to fall behind.” According to the Portage County Board of Elections, if the final tally of votes for Scott and Broska are within 1/2 of 1 percent, there will be a recount completed by Nov. 24.
