2 charged with sale of heroin at KSU: Arrests made after month-long probeNovember 3, 2009
By Dave O’Brien Record-Courier staff writer Following a month-long investigation in which undercover agents bought heroin from a Streetsboro man, the Portage County Drug Task Force arrested that man and an accomplice during an operation on the Kent State University campus. James M. Anderson, 21, of 6233 Stone Road, was arrested Monday at Hilltop Drive and South Lincoln Street in Kent. He was charged with one count of trafficking in drugs, a fifth-degree felony, after selling approximately one gram of heroin to undercover agents. Also arrested in the same incident was Melissa J. Botts, 20, of Hudson. She was charged with complicity to trafficking in drugs, also a fifth-degree felony. The heroin has an approximate street value of $200, according to Portage County Sheriff David Doak. An undisclosed amount of cash also was seized during the incident. Anderson and Botts were taken to the Portage County jail awaiting arraignment. Additional charges are pending, Doak said. Anderson also was arrested and convicted on drug trafficking charges in 2006 and currently is on probation, according to court records. No prior arrests for Botts could be found in Portage County or Summit County online court records. The task force, which was assisted Monday by additional deputies of the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, is comprised of agents from the sheriff’s office, the Aurora, Garrettsville, Kent, Ravenna and Streetsboro police departments and the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office.
