Portage couples to be honored Anniversaries will be celebrated by Catholic dioceseOctober 16, 2009
Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., will celebrate a special Mass at St. John the Baptist Church, Canton, at 2 p.m. Sunday to mark the wedding anniversaries of 112 couples who are being honored for a total of 5,188 years of wedded life ranging from 25 to 70 years. Nine couples from Portage County will be among those honored, celebrating a total of 431 years of marriage. Paul and Naomi Schiltz, parishioners of St. Paul Parish in North Canton, are the longest married couple, celebrating 70 years of marriage. Lawrence and Ruth Coz of St. Ambrose Parish, Garrettsville, are the longest-married couple in Portage County being honored, celebrating 61 years. Other couples to be honored include Alfred and Louise Jurkiewicz of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish of Aurora, 50 years; Gerard and Anne Robine of St. Joseph Parish in Mantua, 50 years; George and Diane Berger, St. Joseph Parish in Randolph, 40 years; Ronald and Genevieve Heineking, 50 years, and Wayne and Darlene Wozniak, 40 years, both of St. Patrick Parish in Kent; Stephen and Barbara Francis, 50 years, and Richard and Judith Hendershot, 50 years, both of St. Peter of the Fields parish in Rootstown; and Robert and Janet Stadulis, parishoners of the University Parish Newman Center of Kent, 40 years. This event is sponsored by the diocesan Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Ministry. A reception, hosted by St. John the Baptist Parish, will be held in the school hall for the honored couples and their families following the Mass.
