Afghan IEDs  in the Tangi Valley

August has been the deadliest month in the eight-year war for U.S. forces in Afghanistan, with 45 killed. The toll surpasses July's, which had been the deadliest month until today. More than 60,000 U.S. troops are fighting rising insurgent violence there, boosted by about 21,000 more pouring in this summer as part of President Barack Obama's effort to rout the resurgent Taliban.
