Regarding the recent editorial ("Great legacy," Record-Courier, June 12), while it's not unexpected for a small town newspaper to extol political bureaucrats who have somehow managed not to be indicted or resign in disgrace, words such as "legacy," "magnificent," "set the bar high" and "salute," sound like a preparation for being dipped in bronze.
My memory is still fresh of the day when a politician forked over $500 to an attorney at an election appeal hearing he was destined to lose.
I also had spoken up on a question of disputed election signatures. Nor did it matter which director chaired, as they operated as a tag team. Nor did it apparently matter to a board member who later became a state senator.
It was a pretty amazing statement that should be played for every high school civics class in Ohio: "If we want to, we will hire handwriting experts to disqualify any candidate we wish to." I certainly will never forget it.
