ess Kendrick Born October 18, 1928, died June 18, 2009. Dr. Kendrick was Professor Emeritus of the University of Akron Frank was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the only child of Dr. Frank Jenness Kendrick, Sr., and Dorothy Gray Whatmaugh. His father was in the Army in World War II, and Frank and his mother traveled all over the United States with him. After graduating from Grinnell College in Iowa, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He returned and earned his Master’s and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago. He married the former Betty Grant. They had four wonderful children, Ellen, Elizabeth, Grant and Emily, and nine grandchildren, Evan, Elsa, Eric and David Heiner; Joe, Rose and Louise Kendrick; and Anna and Ella Quade. Frank was a lifelong, proud, liberal Democrat, and an activist for peace and justice. He taught Political Science and Urban Studies, and was the author of two books and numerous articles. He was President of the United Nations Association, and a Senior Research Fellow at the Council on Hemispheric Affairs. He was active in the Portage County Democratic Coalition, the Kent Sanctuary group, Great Decisions, the Akron Peace Council, and the Alaska Club. He was a member of the Kent Unitarian-Universalist Church. Our family would like to thank Dr. Steven Radwany and the Palliative Care team at Summa Health System for their kindness and caring during his last days. Donations to any liberal organization, or to the Unitarian Church of Kent, or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, in Frank’s memory would be welcome. A memorial service will be held on July 6, 2009, at 6:30 pm, at the Unitarian Church, 228 Gougler Av, Kent. (RC 06-27, 28-09) Comments
