The churches of the Ravenna Area Ministerial Association will hold an open house Sunday for all of the community to attend. During the hours of 2 and 5 p.m., anyone will be able to visit and tour five of the organization's member churches.

Churches taking part in the church open house this year are:

* Church of the Nazarene, 3284 Brady Lake Road, (330) 296-8872

* First Christian Church Ravenna, 420 South Prospect St. (330) 296-6383

* First Congregational Church, 266 South Chestnut St., (330) 297-1461

* First United Methodist Church of Ravenna, 263 South Prospect St. (330) 297-7196

* The Salvation Army, 268 West Main Street (330-297-7514)

The concept for the Church Open House was first presented at a ministeria; association meeting by the Rev. Pamela Canzater Cheney.

"When I lived in Cuyahoga County, I was able to attend some of their area Church Open House events; and it gave me a sense of wonder to see the many different ways our houses of worship glorify the presence of God," she said. "Besides, isn't this a great way to acknolwedge the start of spring, with the doors of our churches open wide?"

The contributing members and ministers of theministerial association hppe the idea will catch on and become an annual event, with even more congregations participating in the future.

"However," Cheney said, "We want to remember to limit the number of open houses on that date, so everyone will have a chance to see the featured churches in a limited amount of time."

Visitors may contact the participating churches with specific questions.
