The Southeast Board of Education unanimously voted to not renew the contract of the Primary School principal despite support from the public Monday night.
It was a tearful night and after two hours of a closed door session, the board announced their decision to a large group of parents, students and teachers, who all wished Miller well.
"As a board, we take all personnel issues very seriously," board president David Kemble said. "We provided her (Miller) with written notice of our decision."
Superintendent Tom Harrison said a statement would be available today, further detailing the board's decision.
He also said they would be searching for another principal almost immediately.
At the March 19 board meeting, many concerned parents also attended in support of Miller and were disgruntled about the limited public comment period of 20 minutes, which was extended to an hour Monday.
Christine's husband Dan Miller, also spoke to the board Monday and said they both were disappointed with the decision.

It's comming, forget the fact we are paying each principal $5,ooo.oo more per year. This is pennies on the dollar compared to the insurance premiums we'll be paying when this suit is done! If we're even lucky enough to find an insurance company to insure our district for legal purposes, Ask Dick Young. There is one particular school board member that can re-call this fine time, call her, I'll bet she'll put a spin on things!

With the district having financial difficulties, how can you justify paying each of newbies $5000 more a year?

I believe the board minutes are typed and ready the same week of the meeting. The issue seems to stem from the amazing and brilliant performance of the school districts web and IT department. A three month turnaround time is average for that fine position. Yet another terrific assignment we can chalk up to the board. Why we don't outsource for half the cost with a defined service level agreement is beyond me. I suppose that the performance evaluations for that position showed no reason for non-renewal too.
Speaking of costs, the price the new principals are costing taxpayers. Was an assessment performed to determine if we in fact need two principals instead of a principal and vice principal? Or was this another group-think to fill in two positions that were made vacant through incompetence. If something is broke, you don't bring in two new faces and expect it to fix everything. There was an opportunity to again fix what is wrong and again it slipped through Southeast's fingers. The district needs a good vetting from top to bottom and it must start at the top to stop this insanity.

Hmmm! Still wondering why the board minutes have not been updated since Feb.
Her record is very clean!!! Unless of course you think wearing jeans on "dress down" friday warrants non-renewal. I so look forward to seeing her driving around in a new Jaguar!
Thanks Harrison!!

EVERYTHING AND I MEAN EVERYTHING is laid out! If there was "something else that coulnd't be disclosed, by law it would and will be in Mrs. Miller's personnel file. Good riddens to Harrison and his comrad's!

The new principals have already been hired. After school on Monday the teachers will be meeting the new principals. The only info they have is k-2 is a man and 3-5 is a woman. Why has this been such a secretive process? Why don't I, as a parent have any information on the people who are supposed to have my children in their care everyday? Does it surprise you that Mr. Harrison is going to introduce the staff to the new principals while Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Parrish are still at the helm? It shouldn't. He has proven himself to be disrespectful to employees and parents in the community. I sure hope the k-2 principal is a very sensitive man as these young children need nuturing from not only their teachers but their very involved principal. It's just so sad that Mrs. Miller holds all of the qualifications of an excellent educator and was still not good enough in Mr. Harrison's eyes.

WhatAJoke
Harrison actually scheduled a meeting on June,2 for the staff to meet the new principals. He is doing this while the current principals are still trying to do their jobs. Talk about class. He may as well have slapped them both in the face. What a jerk!!
Also, does anyone have any idea why the board minutes have not been updated since February? It is almost June. Does it take them that long to figure out how to word them so the noose doesn't tighten any harder? I am sure many of you recall Mrs. Miller's attorney requested a public hearing and was not given that right. If I am not mistaken isn't that in itself illegal?

You may want to confirm yourself but I believe there is a Special Board meeting on Monday, June 2 at 6:30 in the HS library to vote on the new primary school principals.

In Response to Dan Leonard 28 May 2008 " Thanks for clarifying your position on this. I did want to take a course of action. We in fact researched removal of elected school board officials through the state office. You need to have a petition signed with several hundred signatures. You then have to have a motion entered into court for a judge to hear the arguments. There is a burden to prove negligent/derelict in the duties to which assigned. This entire course of action could take upwards of 8-12 months and there are costs associated with validating the petition and the court costs. So even with all that accomplished we would still have to show a burden of proof against the board member(s). Sometime in June 2009 we would be in court. Elections are in November 2009. If there is a concentrated effort, we could have them removed, granted we can show our proof earlier than the election, but with timing as is, it certainly looks like we are stuck. Unless someone has an idea on how to expedite this, other than hiring an attorney to represent the interested parents, further slowing the process. I do not mean to sound discouraging; I am frustrated that the process is lengthy.
