Question: What are the most important issues in the village and how will you address them?
Answer: Major concerns to the citizens are the water/sewer rates, the critical condition of the current budget, and the ongoing downtrend of main street businesses. These problems did not occur overnight. Once elected I will immediately implement problem solving strategies beginning with analyzing and controlling the expenditures, finding additional outlets for our water and sewer to offset costs to our citizens, and generate an air of excitement on main street through community activities and volunteerism.
Claude E. Hopkins
Occupation: General manager at retail outlet
Previous elected office: Elected to Mantua council in 1988, served for nine years and has served as mayor since 1997
Question: What are the most important issues in the village and how will you address them?
Answer: One of the most important issues is the loss of Eaton Corporation. We're really going to have to sit down and tighten our belts for the next few years until we get a tenant to replace Eaton. We also need to try to expand on our commerical/industrial base.
