Ohio Edison and FirstEnergy have selected a contractor to begin tree and vegetation pruning or removal services under and around utility lines in Ravenna beginning Jan. 2.
Dave Mathers of Asplundh Tree Expert Co. will visit property owners within the next few weeks to notify them of the trees that will be affected, the type of pruning that will take place, how much clearance is needed under and around the lines and an approximate time frame.
If a resident is not home, a door hanger will be left for the property owner with the information.
Any wood that is 6 inches in diameter or larger will be cut into firewood size pieces and will be left on the property near the base of the tree. Property owners will be responsible for disposal or use of the wood. All stumps will be left and, in most cases, will be cut flush with the ground.
Any tree pruning or removal is mandated by federal law.
