LouAnn Marx, regional marketing director at University Hospitals, was the featured guest speaker at the SmartTalk event recently held at the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center.
She spoke about her favorite Dr. Seuss book, "Oh the Places You'll Go," and how it played an important role in her more than 30 years in the healthcare field starting with her desire to get into nursing after her firsthand experience of watching her father suffer from heart disease.
She earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Auburn University while raising three boys under the age of 10 while her military husband was at sea, and worked as a cardiac care nurse for many years. Throughout her career as a nurse and currently as the regional marketing director overseeing seven of UH's facilities, she always reminds herself of Seuss' words, "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go..."
SmartTalk is a collaboration of the Kent, Ravenna and Streetsboro Area Chambers of Commerce.
