Police in Kent are investigating an incident on Virginia Avenue on the city’s east side that resulted in the shooting death of a man by an officer responding to a call concerning a disturbance there early this morning.
A news conference is set for 11 a.m. today.
Police reportedly were called to Virginia Avenue, which is located off Lake Street on the city’s eastern border,at about 3:45 a.m. after a report of a man creating a disturbance at 626 Virginia.
The names of the man and the officer involved in the shooting have not been released. No officers were injured.
A neighbor, Michelle Kester, said she heard a gunshot and looked out her window as three more shots rang out.
"I saw him fall," she said. "I didn't know a cop was there until I saw the rest of them show up."
Kester said the man, whom she knew only as "Doug," was 24 or 25 years old. She said she heard the man's girlfriend scream "He shot him, he shot him!" then "He's dead, he's dead!"
Two other witnesses' statements supported Kester's account.

Have no idea what happened but condolences to the family of the man shot and also to the officers who had to do this terrible thing to protect the public and themselves. I can't imagine shooting at another human being is easy and my guess is that the officers would have really wanted this to end differently. Prayers for all of you.
