Tanker crashes, leaks diesel in Ravenna Township (with photo gallery)

No one was seriously injured after a tanker carrying diesel fuel crashed at about 6 a.m. Sunday on S.R. 5 in Ravenna Township.

According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, the tanker was traveling west on S.R. 5 when it rolled over while attempting to round a curve in the road just east of the road's intersection with S.R. 59.

The driver was transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna with minor injuries. His name has not yet been released.

The tanker was carrying 7,800 gallons of what the Ohio Highway Patrol described as "off road diesel fuel." An unknown amount of the fuel leaked out of the tanker following the crash.

S.R. 5 was closed while the Ohio Department of Transportation, Ohio Highway Patrol, Portage County Emergency Management Agency, Portage County Sheriff's Office and Ravenna Township Fire Department responded to the crash. A spokesman for the Ravenna Township Fire Department said the scene was not cleared until about 1 p.m.
