Local artist displays work

Paintings by local wildlife and landscape artist Geoff Mowery will be on display at the Kent Free Library, 312 W. Main St., through December. Mowery's works on gessoed board with egg tempera or oil have been displayed at the Cleveland Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art, and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. He has been commissioned to do paintings for companies such as the Franklin Mint and the Knowles China Company. The 10 works that can be viewed at the library reflect Mowery's love of the outdoors. One painting, "Ice Wine Country," depicts a snowy owl perched along the Lake Erie coast at sunset, with crates of the area's prized grapes in the foreground. Other paintings feature wild animals and scenes of outdoor sports. Mowery's paintings are the second exhibit in the library's new gallery space. Local artists may apply to show their works; information is available at the Information Desk.
