Leonard "Len" Konopitski and Margaret "May" Spencer were married Nov. 22, 1952, in Elizabeth, Pa. The couple celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. They have lived in Kent for 56 years.
A party was held in their honor, on their anniversary, at their home in Kent, attended by 25 friends and family members.
The Konopitskis are the parents of seven, grandparents of 10, and great-grandparents of one. Their children in attendance at the party were Sue Konopitski, Joy Konopitski and Kathy (Konopitski) Wolfe, all of Kent; Mary (Konopitski) Stoneking of Maumee; and Carol (Konopitski) McGee and husband Larry of Akron. Unable to attend, but calling with well-wishes, were Linda Konopitski of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Lenny Konopitski and wife Becky of Candler, N.C.
The hosts were Kathy Wolfe and Joy Konopitski. Family members cooked the Thanksgiving dinner and made the couple sit down and relax, for once. Special guests included granddaughter Brieanna (and Jeremy) Tenney with the couple's only great-grandchild, Beau.
Len and May met on a double blind date. At the party, Leonard told a story about how he thought May's name was JoAnn, the name of the other woman on the double date, and called her that for their first two dates before he found out that was not her name.
Len retired after 32 years at the Ford Motor Co. in Walton Hills. May retired after 17 years at Parker Hannifin in Kent and Ravenna. She also worked in the foreign students admissions office at Kent State University.
Leonard and Margaret are members of St. Patrick Church in Kent. They are both volunteers at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. May crochets and sews crafts and sells them at craft shows.
They have been to every state and have a set of salt and pepper shakers from each to prove it. For their anniversary, they each received a Kindle Fire as a gift from the family, since they love to read books and play card and slot games online. They say they are still very much in love.
