Life of Civil War colonel is historical society topic

The Portage County Historical Society will continue with its fall lecture series at 2 p.m. Saturday. Richard J. Staats of Randolph will present a program on "The Life and Times of Colonel William Stedman of the 6th Ohio Cavalry." Stedman was a well-known abolitionist, a dedicated Ohio State representative who served with James Garfield, and a distinguished Civil War veteran. He was "a man of convictions." Staats is the president of the Randolph Historical Society and has authored several books on the Civil War. The 75-minute presentation is free and open to the public.
