Kids in costume have ‘Unskating’ fun

Published:

A Halloween costume Unskating Party, offering roller skating for children with disabilities, was recently held at the Springfield Lake Roller Rink in Lakemore.

Wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes and shoes were permitted in the rink. Refreshments were provided by families bringing in donations of treat bags, cookies and candy to share, which were distributed by the Port-Summit Rotary members.

There were 179 participants this year.

The Northeast Ohio Roller Derby Girls spent time skating with the kids and supported the basket raffles.

PowerCorps volunteers took Polaroid photos of the kids that they could take home, all set on a background the volunteers had created.

The event is sponsored by the Parent Mentor Program of Southeast Local and Field Local schools, the Portage County Educational Service Center, and the Springfield Lake Roller Rink.
