Around Ravenna by Patsy Artz

Jacki-lin's Cosmeticque is having an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 30 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 1. She is located at 640 Cleveland Road in Ravenna. There will be a Christmas Bazaar with homemade gifts, food, raffles and door prizes.

Jacki was telling me that she has been at that location for 30 years. I think you should stop by. It will be a lot of fun and a good start for the season.

Jack Schafer and Ann DiPaola were at our Ravenna Township trustee meeting to update us on the flagpole. The Ravenna Township trustees are very pleased at the progress they have made so far. They got a quote from Spensiere L.L.C. for $118,000 to refurbish the pole. This would include taking it down and apart and shipping it to Syracuse, N.Y., repairing it, shipping it back to Ravenna, and reassembling it. This was far less than we were quoted from another company.

Thus far, they have raised more than $70,000 for the project. There is still a good deal of money needed for the flagpole. The Ravenna Township trustees have all donated and are hoping that the many people who called and emailed us will also donate.

If you can possibly help, send a check to Friends of the Flagpole, P.O. Box 444, Ravenna, OH 44266.

I can remember as a child traveling on S.R. 14 and seeing a sign on the corner of S.R. 14 and S.R. 88: "Ravenna, Ohio, the home of 10,000 friendly people and a few soreheads under control." I loved that sign.

The Ravenna Elks Club is having a Texas Hold'Em game today. It starts at 1 p.m. The cost is only $50 and you could possibly win hundreds of dollars. Food is included. Buy an extra $1,000 worth of chips for $10. Try your luck at the Elks. Today.

Last Saturday night Roger, my sister, Peggy Roush, and I attended a Karaoke at the Elks.

We were having a wonderful time. Much to my surprise, Pat McCon of Mantua got up and sang. Wow! What a terrific voice. Pat sang several songs and we were all amazed at the clarity and tone of his voice. Pat, you are in the wrong business.

Ravenna Township received a bill from Ohio Edison for changing a light bulb on one of our poles in Ravenna Township. The bill was for more than $1,200. Yes, you read it right, $1,200. I asked Vince Coia and Hank Gibson, the other two trustees, if Ohio Edison held the light still and turned the pole.

That's my story and I am sticking to it.
