Childrens publishing topic of writers and illustrators

The Northern Ohio chapter of the Society of Childrens Book Writers and Illustrators is sponsoring a conference, February Thaw: Whats Hot in Childrens Publishing, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Saturday at the Cleveland Sheraton Airport Hotel. The conference, providing creative and practical ideas, is open to both published and aspiring writers.

Artists agent Christina Tugeau will present the opening address, Whats Hot in 2003: A Market Survey of Editors and Art Directors. Suzanne Reinoehl, Holiday House editor, will present the keynote address, The Write Stuff: The Elements of a Good Story. David Dilkes, Enslow Publishers editor, will address the luncheon audience with My ReportLinks.com Books: A Bridge Between Books and the Internet.

Several Ohio writers and illustrators will speak at break out sessions during the conference. Author Marilyn Weymouth Seguin of Cuyahoga Falls, who teaches at Kent State University, will present a workshop on Ten Essentials of Writing and Marketing Historical Fiction for Young Readers.

Ravenna resident Rhonda Mitchell, the illustrator of nine books, will discuss picture book illustration in her address, Basic Illustrations and Beyond.

Stow writer Rhonda Filipan will present He Said, She Said: Heating Up the Point of View in Young Adult Fiction.
