Stow-Munroe Falls High School senior trumpeter Kenny Piatt recently participated in the 2003 Ohio All-State Band.
The band performed Jan. 24 at the annual professional conference of the Ohio Music Education Association, which was held for music teachers from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and states as far west as North Dakota.
The OMEA All-State Band was conducted by Kenneth Bloomquist, emeritus director of bands at the University of Michigan.
Piatt was among the 88 high school instrumentalists selected from the more than 500 audition tapes received. He has been a member of the Stow-Munroe Falls band program since the fifth grade.
He has been actively involved in the marching band, jazz band and wind ensemble, where he has been a first chair trumpeter for two years.
Piatt has received superior ratings at OMEA solo and ensemble adjudicated events since the seventh grade. He plans to attend the University of Akron in the fall to major in music education.
We are all very proud of Kennys appointment to this outstanding ensemble, said Stow-Munroe Falls band director Brian Monroe, who was in attendance at Piatts All-State Band performance. He is only the third student in the past 15 years to be selected for the OMEA All-State Band. We congratulate him on his hard work and dedication to personal excellence.
Piatt is the son of Ron and Tracy Piatt of Stow.
