Cecil Giltz Published:

The Elm Garden Club of Kent held its first meeting of the year recently at the home of Gretchen Papka of Kent.

The hostesses for the meeting were Carlyn Bassham, Carol Birkner and Jan Palermo.

Gerry Orr, co-president, brought the meeting to order and introduced the new officers and committee leaders.

After the business meeting, Sylvia Armstrong explained the theme of the meeting, Gathering Creative Ideas.

Everyone was asked to bring their favorite garden or garden craft book to share with the members for ideas for The Boutique in the fall or for their own use.

Each member talked briefly about what they liked about their book and then the books were displayed on the table for the members to peruse.

Armstrong and Nena Hankins, co-vice presidents, presented the programs for the upcoming year.

Februarys meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Portage County Gardeners Center, 5154 S. Prospect St., in Rootstown with Barbara Oare, presenter, demonstrating Using Herbs to Create Exciting Desserts.
