Santa coming to Mantua tonight

By Rachel Hagenbaugh Staff Writer Published:

Children who have yet to send their Christmas lists to Santa are in luck. St. Nicholas and Mrs. Claus will be arriving by fire truck at 6 p.m. today at the Mantua Mini Park for the 9th annual Santa Visit sponsored by the Mantua-Shalersville Area Chamber of Commerce.

"We enjoy seeing the families in the downtown area," said Chamber of Commerce President Christine Pitsinger.

Last year, about 50 children came to the event.

"That's a lot for that area considering everyone's got mom, dad, grandma or grandpa with them," Pitsinger said. "It gets pretty full."

Hot chocolate and refreshments will be provided. Pitsinger said she encourages residents to carol and bring a non-breakable ornament to add to the pine tree in the park.

In addition to the Santa Visit, the Chamber of Commerce is also sponsoring the Giving Tree Program, which provides a gift or gift card for all less fortunate children in the Crestwood School District.
