Kent Festival of Lights decorations removed to prevent vandalism

Record-Courier Staff Report Published:

City of Kent officials said holiday decorations put up for the city's Festival of Lights Saturday were removed the same day to prevent any potential for damage.

Kent Service Director Gene Roberts said American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees volunteered their time to put up decorations on the Main Street Bridge and the gazebo at the corner of Main Street and Franklin Avenue early Saturday. The decorations were removed following the annual event that night and placed into storage, as they have been for the past few years.

"They were taken down to prevent any potential vandalism," Roberts said.

He said the location of the decorations, within arm's reach of pedestrians, created a situation that could lead to property damage.

"They're just truly an attractive nuisance," Roberts said of the decorations.

  • I've got some pumpkins on the front porch just begging to be smashed. Maybe I should put them downtown?
