What started as an effort by Garrettsville's Kepich Ford to give toys to local children has grown to include about 17 business that wanted to support the dealership's Toys For Tots event, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday.

"The more I started talking about it, the more people asked 'How can I help?'" owner Pete Kepich said. "I am so impressed with the amount of people that wanted to get involved."

Kepich said the goal is to fill five F-150 trucks with new, unwrapped toys that will be donated to local Toys for Tots charities.

"We decided to pick Toys for Tots to assist the kids who aren't going to be as lucky as other kids," Kepich said.

To help push the event, former Cleveland Browns player Hanford Dixon will be at the dealership from 5 to 7 p.m. to meet donors and sign autographs. Junior Marines and ex-Marines from the area will also attend the event to accept donations. Food and refreshments will be provided through the day.

The supporting businesses have been a huge help, Kepich said. They've done everything from collecting toys at their events, to donating toys and assisting in advertising costs for Kepich's event.

"It's amazing how people pull together," Kepich said. "I'm sure everybody wants to see as many people as possible have a nice Christmas."

Kepich Ford, located at 10301 Liberty St., will be collecting donations for Toys for Tots until Dec. 19.
