CLEVELAND (AP) -- A police chase in Cleveland that lasted more than 5 miles and began with a shot fired near police headquarters led to a gunfight that killed a man and a woman.
The chase began around 10:30 p.m. in Cleveland and went through the village of Bratenahl (BRAT'-ih-nahl) and East Cleveland before ending with the two suspects being fatally shot by officers near a school that remained closed Friday.
The Plain Dealer reported Friday (http://bit.ly/YzhLa8 ) that one witness said as many as 50 police cars were involved in the chase.
The newspaper said the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office tentatively identified the two suspects as a 30-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man.
No officers were reported injured.
East Cleveland Detective Sgt. Scott Gardner said the investigation would be long and involved.
