Christ Episcopal Church in Kent will resound with the music of the Great White Way as it proudly raises the curtain on its debut Broadway Mass, this Sunday, February 10 at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to join in and sing along with music from Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! to Stephen Schwartz’s Godspell.
“There are so many inspiring musical theatre songs to choose from, it was hard to pick just a few,” says Christ Episcopal Church member Katherine Burke. “People will definitely be humming show tunes on the way home!”
Led by Jonathan Swoboda, assistant professor of theatre in Kent State’s School of Theatre and Dance, the choir and congregation will sing songs from such shows as Oliver!, Finian’s Rainbow, Into the Woods, and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Swoboda has served as the music director of more than 75 productions, and has toured as the featured keyboard artist for the “18th Century Rock ‘n’ Roll” group Mannheim Steamroller.
"Most Sundays we sing beautiful choral music from the traditional Episcopal hymnal," said choir member Liz Pryor, "but this week we get to channel our inner Bernadette Peters!"
